Membership Meeting - 7:00 pm - May 24th

Join us for Monday’s SWNA membership meeting. We will be meeting at the Sam Duff Park pavilion (on the Hedgeapple side of the park). There are a couple picnic tables with limited seating. Please bring lawn chairs.

We are following recent CDC guidelines with regards to COVID-19 and masks are optional for those who have been vaccinated. Please wear a mask if you have NOT been vaccinated.

REMINDER: Tim Saults will be taking up money for our highly fashionable SWNA t-shirts. If you haven’t yet ordered yours, it’s not too late!

January 27th 'Full House' Membership Meeting

We are having our Full House Membership meeting - 7:00 at Woodlawn Christian Church.

This is our annual membership drive, so bring a neighbor - or two! We’ll have food, door prizes and plan to have fun!

If you haven’t already joined or renewed your membership, we will be accepting dues payments.

Reminder: we are still looking for entries in our chili cook-off. This is a contest and the winner will walk away with the coveted gold spoon award. If you are bringing chili, please bring it by 6:30 so we can have everything ready to go by 7:00.

Our community continues to change – we want you to be a constructive part of that change!

Association Annual Dues: 
  • Individual membership: $10.00
  • Family membership: $15.00
  • Seniors (over age 60): $5.00
  • Business Member: $50.00 

July 22nd - Membership Meeting

Our next membership meeting will be Monday, July 22nd. We will be meeting at 7:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Christian Church.

Our guest speaker will be Chase Steele, AmeriCorps member who works at the City’s Solid Waste Division. Chase will give us the dos and don’ts of curbside household recycling and be available to answer questions.

We will also have our police liaison, City Council Representative Stephanie Welch and County Commissioner Carson Dailey (if the County Commission meeting doesn’t run too late).

ALSO, our School Outreach Committee is collecting items for the Teacher’s Assistants at Dogwood Elementary School. Please bring an item to donate. They are looking for the following:
  • Treasure Box items (e.g. stickers, toy cars - no candy please)
  • Boxes of Kleenex
  • Dry Erase Markers (Fat/Skinny, any color)
  • White poster-board
  • Sheetprotectors(100 packs)
  • Cash donations for ‘welcome back’ breakfast

If you would like to contribute but can’t make it to Monday’s meeting, send an email to and we’ll pick up the item.

We hope you will plan to join us on the 22nd!

May 27th - SWNA Memorial Day Picnic in the Park and Annual Meeting

In Honor of Memorial Day, join us for neighborhood fellowship and our annual SWNA meeting at a picnic in the park. We have reserved the pavilion on the Hedgeapple side of Sam Duff park.

SWNA will provide hotdogs and fixings (including vegetarian option), side dishes, drinks and dessert. All you need to bring is chair, a smile and an interest in your neighborhood.

We’re excited for the community to see the new Bike Repair Station we’ve been working on and show off our new yard signs and banner.

Come learn about activities accomplished by your SWNA over the past year and help us plan activities for future good deeds.

We will also have annual elections of our officers and board. If you would like to participate in leadership of the association, nominations will be accepted - and are encouraged - at the meeting.

If you have been active, we would love to reconnect with you. If you're new, we would love to meet you. All are welcome to attend!

Join us for our annual Business and Membership Outreach meeting.

We will be electing our officers and our Board of Governors. Are you interested in helping guide the direction of our neighborhood association and the projects on which we work? Come to the meeting and throw your hat in for a position on the board.

Our meeting is not all business! We will also hear from Hilary Gallegos - SWNA member and Knox County Master Gardener Intern.

Membership Meeting November 26th

Are you interested in learning how workforce housing can work well in our neighborhood? Join us to hear John Shepard, VP of Elmington Capital Group, speak to our neighborhood. He will present concept plans for the development planned at E. Young High Pike for us to review and give input. Come learn more about this project and how it will fit in within the community.

We will also have a RAFFLE for two great prizes - 2 tickets to the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra's Swingin' Christmas Show at the Tennessee Theater on December 21, 2018 ($78 value) and a $25 certificate to have your taxes done @ H&R Block.

No time for dinner before
the meeting? No problem!
Soup, cornbread and beverages will be available at the meeting for a neighborhood donation of $5 cash! We will have vegan/gluten-free vegetable soup and meatful chili.

SWNA School Outreach Committee
As a continuation of our support for Dogwood Elementary School, please bring a Christmas donation of treasure box items, sheet protectors, notebook tab dividers, or a monetary (cash or check) to the meeting! (Checks should be made payable to SWNA)

SWNA Observes National Night Out

We’ll hear from a KAT representative about new services in the plans. Come to learn more and for your opportunity to give input and feedback!

ALSO, note that SWNA is partnering with Dogwood Elementary to help provide supplies for teacher’s assistants through the school year. Please bring any of the following to the July meeting if you can. If you would like to donate but can’t attend the membership meeting, there will be a box on the porch at 404 Barclay Drive where you can drop off donations.

Membership Meeting May 21, 2018

This month our membership meeting will be the 3rd Monday due to Memorial Day. 

John Sheppard, a representative of the Elmington Group, will be on hand to discuss a proposed development of an "affordable workforce housing" complex on East Young High Pike (beside the post office).

Hilary Gallegos, owner of Plant Be Green and SWNA Board Member, will give us tips about how to spruce up your yard without breaking the bank and talk about use of native plants in your landscaping.

Join us for our annual seed & plant share! Bring your extra seedlings or perennials that you have thinned out this spring or, if you don’t have extras, come see what your neighbors have to share.

Join your neighbors – share good food, lively conversation, and learn more about exciting happenings in South Knoxville!

We will hear from a Kroger representative who will tell us about plans for the store at Chapman Square and answer questions and listen to suggestions from our members.

Com to meet Stephanie Welch, our newly-elected City Council rep, Carson Dailey, our County Commission rep, and hear from Officer Dan Roark, our police liasion.
